Some
of you might have found your way here through climbing related links. I am sorry
to disappoint but I no longer climb and both of my books are out of print (if
you are interested in guidebooks to Red River Gorge I recommend Grant Stephen's
Stones of Years III which is available from a number of sources). I am
also not very interested in climbing politics, Red River Gorge websites, discussion
groups, etc. I appreciate your emails, but I just don't have the time or inclination
to opine on climbing except for this.
I am content to be doing other things these days. It's your turn to have
at it now. Go enjoy yourselves and have a nice life.
You might have also followed skiing related links to get here.
Although I am no longer an instructor (having retired after passing the P.S.I.A.
associate level ski exam), I actively explore the backcountry on skis, snowboards
and snowshoes during the long Idaho high country snow season. There are outrageous
backcountry adventures to be had in this area of the country. Yee Haaaaaa!
| My
Rossignol Rocal. This honey, a pair of snowshoes, a beeper and shovel are my backcountry
tools of choice. Brian Mason and Ben Nickell, two of my best hiking companions, are shown here approaching the summit of Bonneville Peak. Sweat equity lives! | ![]() |
Professionally I am involved in physics (optics, acoustics, meteorology), and sound reinforcement. I also own and operate a small recording studio/sound company which has surpassed my wildest dreams of productivity. I was, for a while, also involved in local government as chair of the local planning and zoning board, a.k.a the Community Development Commission. For anyone who knew me back in the 70's and 80's, the concept that a career derelict such as myself could ever become involved in endeavors such as these must be moderately mind-warping. The folks at Eastern Kentucky University, who thrashed me for four straight years, are to blame for this and bear full responsibility for any subsequent heinous acts that I perpetrate on the world.
For recreation these days I spend time with my son, J.R., run mountain trails, ride dirt bikes, race street motorcycles, ski, snowboard, play in a rock/funk band (Groovers), do pro sound gigs, record, write, watch a lot of movies, and fiddle around my small farm. I have lots of company (see above and below). If I have not heard from you in a while, feel free to email me.
The fun-meter, as always, is still pegged.
