Particle Beam Laboratory

The ISU Physics Department works in conjunction with the Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC) to manage the Particle Beam Laboratory. The IAC and Particle Beam Laboratory provide experimental test beds for high energy particle experiments. The facility is used by on campus and off campus entities, for public and private research. If you would like to learn more about the capabilities of the beam lab, or to request the use of these facilities, please contact us or see the IAC webpage.

Below is a brief description of the equipment available in the beam labs. Please note that improvements and configuration changes are being made constantly, and may not be presented here. Please contact us for more up-to-date information. For more information about the higher energy equipment available at the IAC, please see the IAC website.

Van Dee Graaff One and exit ports2 Van de Graaff electrostatic accelerators. These devices use a 2 million volt potential to accelerate particles. These particles may be electrons, protons, or helium nuclei.
