Type: Radiological Controls Inspector Responsibilities: The purpose of the position is to provide technical and practical support in the area of Radiological Protection. Functions including but not limited to:
Education/Experience: All candidates shall possess a two year certificate from an accredited technical school in a job related technical topic and 18 months of applied health physics technician experience; or a high school diploma (or equivalent) and three (3) years of applied health physics technician experience. Required Qualifications: Subcontractor personnel shall be required to successfully complete a written examination and oral evaluation prior to beginning any radiological work. No exceptions to the written examination shall be granted unless personnel have documentation of completion of the standardized core courses for DOE Radiological Control Technicians within the past twenty-four (24) months. If the initial screening or re-qualification examination (required every two years) score is greater than 70% but less than 80% (passing score) then a second examination will be allowed within seven days. Those who fail on their second attempt will not be considered again for a minimum period of six months from the date of the last examination. They shall be able to complete their task while wearing respiratory protection equipment. They will be required to climb stairs and ladders while carrying twenty-five pounds of survey equipment. Depending on their assignment and DOE approval, they may be required to drive government vehicles. They will be required to pass testing for Radiological Worker II and respirator qualification. Work Hours: The 40-hour workweek schedule will be determined by the assigned facility to accommodate the current demand of work evolutions and shift rotations. Prepare and submit applicable regulatory reports relating to air, water, waste, toxic releases, etc. Coordinate chemical uses within SMS-HES. Coordinate waste pick-ups. Analyze and trend environmental-related metrics. Education: BS degree in Health Physics or Industrial Hygiene, or closely related field. Strong technical ability. Experience & Skills: Ten years of increasing experience in large scale compliance programs for either radiological or industrial hygiene. Experience in applied Health Physics or in manufacturing & distribution operations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comprehensive knowledge of basis for compliance programs in these fields. Excellent organizational and managerial skills. Type: Health Physicist/General Scientist Duties: As a Health Physicist in the Radioactive Materials Safety Branch your responsibilities include assisting in the development of guides in the medical area to support the implementation of 10 CFR Part 35, Medical Use of Byproduct Material; assisting in the implementation of licensing and inspection procedures; coordinating responses to complex technical assistance requests submitted by the NRC Regional Offices; interfacing with the Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (ACMUI) on various technical and policy issues; and supporting responses to events at materials facilities.
