FACULTY POSITIONS
Idaho State University

The DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS at Idaho State University (ISU) expects to have two tenure track faculty positions at the assistant professor level available beginning August 2001. Appointment at a more senior level will be considered for qualified applicants. Candidates are expected to effectively teach physics classes ranging from large service courses, e.g., Astronomy and General Physics, to graduate level courses and to establish a research program compatible with ISU research facilities. The principle research emphases of the department are applications of nuclear physics including materials analysis, exotic beams, nondestructive assay and imaging, health physics, medical physics, and environmental physics. There are also research programs in intermediate-energy nuclear physics and solid state physics.

Much of our research utilizes the facilities of the Idaho Accelerator Center which include a fast pulse (50 ps or less) high-intensity 30 MeV electron LINAC installed in a new building, one 400 kV and two 2 MV positive ion Van de Graaffs, a tandem accelerator (850 kV on terminal), and several additional electron LINACs. The Department also has two laboratories for radionuclide analysis which support research and low-level environmental measurements. Research collaborations exist with INEEL, TJAF, LANL, SNL, TUNL and DFELL. B.S. & M.S. degrees in Physics and Health Physics are offered by the Department and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Applied Science is offered in cooperation with the College of Engineering. We seek applicants with a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics or a closely related discipline emphasizing nuclear science such as ion beam analysis, accelerator physics, health physics, or computational nuclear physics. Consideration of applications will begin February 15, 2001, and continue until the positions are filled.

ISU, the regions premier nuclear research institution, is a school of 13,000 students, and is located within easy driving distance of world class skiing (Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Salt Lake City), several National Parks, Monuments and Wilderness Areas, and some of the country's best hunting, fishing, kayaking, white water rafting, climbing and backpacking.
