STUFF TO SEE & DO (we'll add more later...)

Potential day/weekend trips
(all are within driving distance and you can get a pretty good visit in one day-obviously some have more things to do than just sightsee)

  • Yellowstone National Park - This is probably the sight we tell most people to visit while here.  It is WELL worth the money.  If you have the time/money, take more than a day to see the park.
Craters of the Moon National Monument - Large lava fields with some unusual sights not seen other places in the world.  Be sure to go into the caves while you're out there.
  • Massacre Rocks State Park
  • Jackson Hole, WY - Playground for celebrities.  The drive up there is absolutely beautiful.  Whitewater rafting and fishing are the most popular activities.  There is also a lot of shopping, but its becoming more "touristy" type stores and art galleries.  A weekend here can get expensive unless you camp.
  • Salt Lake City, UT - SLC is only a few hours down I-15 if you need to escape to a more populated area.  Getting to Pocatello can also be a bit cheaper (sometimes) if you fly into SLC and take a shuttle from one of the local tour companies.  SLC offers everything a major US city would.

Longer weekend trips

  • LAS VEGAS - We're only about 7 hours north of Vegas...it can make for an excellent road trip with a group of friends.
  • Bryce Canyon, Zion, and other parks in Utah are convenient weekend trips for camping etc.
  • See offbeat tourist attractions from RoadsideAmerica.com (some are only a short distance from here).

Events

  • Spud Day - This is an unusual event in Shelley (35 mi. north of Pocatello) to kick off the spud harvest vacation from school.  There is usually a parade (don't be fooled, this IS a small town parade), carnival (complete with a pit of mashed potatoes to play tug of war over), and other sporting competitions throughout the week.
  • Campus Activities
Activites

  • Almost any OUTDOOR sport can be done within a few miles of the University.  The University has equipment rental on campus at discounted prices for students and they provide maps.
  • Cheap Movies - $2 theater in town (of course it usually has older movies that have not come to video yet, but...).  The Student Union has FREE movies for ISU students and cheap concessions ($2 will buy popcorn, candy, and soda).
  • Lagoon - Amusement park en route to Salt Lake City.  It has enough rides/etc to keep you busy for a day.  The University has busses that takes groups of students down there every now and then.

See more pictures our facilities here...it is a work in progres...
