An Energy Forum
June 23, 2001: A panel discussion on the topic of the national energy policy and its impact on Idaho
was led by Idaho Senator Larry Craig.
A public meeting was held June 23, 2001 to discuss the nations energy policy. Several prominent Idaho Leaders participated in
the discussion. The panel was lead by Idaho Senator Larry Craig who currently works on the Senate Energy and Natural
Resources Committee. There were officials from Idaho Power, Governor Kempthorne's office, Bechtel, and the Department of
Energy on the panel to discus this issue. Idaho Congressman Mike Simpson from the second district
also participated in the discussion. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the role all types of electrical generation, including nuclear power will have in the
energy policy of the United States, not to engage in a pro/con debate on the nuclear question. The rising cost of energy, along with
the sure spread of California type electrical shortages, make this the right time to open this discussion.
The meeting was held in Idaho Falls in the auditorium of the new Bennion Student Union Building. The panel discussion started at
7:00 pm. Questions and answers followed the panel discussion with questions submitted in writing from the audience or
to this web site. To see more visit http://www.physics.isu.edu/html/frames10.htm
