Radiation Research Opportunities at the IAC: A Sales-Pitch

The Idaho Accelerator Center (IAC) has more operating research accelerators
than any other university in North America. This resource offers
an enormous opportunity to pursue many questions in applied or “pure” nuclear
science. The list of ongoing research projects at the IAC is
a long one. These range from radiation effects in electronics, materials
and biological systems to basic nuclear cross sections and processes.
Other topics of active interest include novel radiation beams, nuclear and
mixed waste assay, radiolytic decomposition of hazardous waste, detection
of nuclear materials, positron probes of material science, accelerator-driven
nuclear reactors, radiation beam dosimetry and diagnostics, gamma-ray “lasers,
and non-exponential nuclear decay. Opportunities for students to contribute
in these areas will be dis
