Cosmology and the Appearance of Aggressively Expanding Civilizations

If advanced civilizations are capable of a few specific technologies, it should be possible for them to expand and utilize resources over vast, intergalactic distances.  After a brief historical discussion of the Fermi paradox and interstellar colonization, I introduce the concept of "aggressively expanding civilizations," and a cosmological model to describe the saturation of the universe with life.  We will examine distance and time scales, competition between expansion strategies, a possible physical backreaction on the universe, and the observability of the process from the Earth for a variety of scenarios.
