GW NS-NS/NS-BH Merger Events and Short GRB Subclasses

Since September 2015 the LIGO collaboration has reported significant detections of three BH-BH mergers.  With additional refinements LIGO's gravitational-wave interferometers are eventually expected to have sufficient sensitivity to detect the lower strains of NS-NS and NS-BH mergers.  We will briefly review the phenomenology and physics of gravitational waves and the two subclasses of short gamma-ray bursts before discussing the detection volumes for these GW/EM events and how each astrophysical 'channel' might complement understanding afforded by the other of NS-NS/NS-BH mergers.
