A Physicist Walks into a Barre: A Case Study in Integrating Science and the Arts

obviously incorporates principles of physics. After all, movement
involves forces and matter and energy, and these provide ways to
analyze the art form from a scientific perspective. But there are other
angles as well. I embedded myself into a dance company to see some of
the physics in this context, and while those were meaningful, practices
of dance and dance education have informed my work and teaching.
Moreover, my collaboration with a dance educator and students led to a
creation of dance/science performances, workshops, and curricula that
show parallels in our practices, even as we have different purposes.
