Solar Neutrino Studies at the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory

Sudbury Neutrino Observatory
The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory has completed its initial two phases of
operation. Recently, an array of low-background neutron detectors was
installed in the heavy-water region of the SNO detector marking the beginning
of the third and final stage of SNO operation. The neutral current
detector (NCD) array consists of 36 proportional counters filled with 3He-CF4
gas and 4 proportional counters filled with 4He-CF4.
These detectors were deployed using specially designed hardware that
conforms to the high radiopurity requirements in SNO, including a one-of-a-kind
remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Solar neutrino results and aspects
of the NCD array deployment process will be presented together with
an outlook for future physics from the new SNOLAB facility.
