Rockets and Jets and Noise! Oh, My!

Dr. Kent L. Gee

Although the sound power generated from military jets and launch vehicles is only a tiny fraction of the overall mechanical power, the acoustic levels produced are enough to at least rival your neighbor’s bass-thumping stereo!  During this talk, I will discuss physical principles related to the generation and propagation of sound from these aeroacoustic noise sources.  I will also describe some of my research in these areas and tell some mildly amusing stories.  Finally, I promise to not use a single partial differential equation.
